🏭 Strengthening Covington’s manufacturing workforce.
Mayor Ron Washington recently joined local manufacturers for a roundtable hosted by @atkinsandpearce, the first gathering of its kind since 2018.
Leaders discussed workforce training, salaries, housing affordability, transportation, and strategies to attract and retain talent, including partnerships with local high schools to build a strong talent pipeline.
Representatives from @gctc_news, Northern Kentucky Area Development District, NKY Works, and the @nkychamber of Commerce also joined the conversation to share resources and identify ways to strengthen the region’s manufacturing sector.
The City is committed to listening to and supporting our local businesses.

@covparks is hosting a free Historical Walking Series tour of the Historic Licking Riverside Neighborhood on Saturday, Sept. 12.
The tour will explore the history, architecture, and stories of Covington’s oldest neighborhood, with a walk covering approximately 1.5 to 2 miles.

The City of Covington’s Economic Development Division and Director John Sadosky celebrated the opening of Legacy Key Property Management & Real Estate at 140 W. Pike St. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday.
Led by broker Vicky McIntosh, a former teacher, Legacy Key offers services in real estate, property management, tenant placement, and maintenance coordination.

Vice Mayor Shannon Smith administered McCauley’s oath of office, with his family and members of the department’s leadership there to celebrate the occasion.
McCauley brings seven years of experience serving in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Military Police.

📣 Extended Public Comment on Proposed Axon Contract
The public will have an extended opportunity to share comments with the Covington Board of Commissioners regarding the Covington Police Department’s proposed contract with Axon.
Those who wish to address the Board during its Legislative Meeting regarding the contract are encouraged to attend. Public comment will be extended to five minutes per person to allow additional time for people to share their thoughts.

The City wants to ensure residents’ voices are heard and that the public has an additional opportunity to share feedback.
Those who are unable to attend the meeting in person or who would prefer to submit their comments in writing may do so in advance using the comment form on our website.
Written comments submitted through the form will be provided to the Board of Commissioners for consideration.
🚧 Some important traffic changes are coming to Covington as construction continues on the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor Project.
Beginning on or after Monday, Sept. 14:
➡️ Third Street is expected to reopen after months of utility work.
➡️ The I-71/75 southbound off-ramp to W. Fifth Street (KY 8) will permanently close. Drivers will still be able to use Exit 192, but traffic will exit onto Crescent Avenue.
➡️ The portion of W. Fifth Street between Crescent Avenue and the I-71/75 northbound ramp to W. Fifth Street will also close long-term.
To reach W. Fifth Street, southbound I-71/75 drivers can use Exit 192, turn right onto Crescent Avenue, right onto Third Street, then right onto Philadelphia Street.
Please use the map to familiarize yourself with the upcoming changes, and allow extra time when traveling through the area. @kytransportation will provide updates if the schedule changes.
Special delivery at Barb Cook Park!
Last week, a new pre-fabricated restroom building was delivered to the park in West Latonia. The restroom will be permanently installed, providing a more convenient and reliable experience for residents and visitors.
The park improvement project was funded through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.
Thank you to the City’s Public Works Department for helping facilitate the delivery and for their work on this improvement!

If you’re planning to celebrate in Covington, familiar restrictions will be in place involving road closures, parking, alcohol, scooters, and more.
Please allow extra time to get around and follow directions from Covington Police to help keep the celebration safe.

We toured Rumpke Waste & Recycling’s Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), where recyclable materials are sorted, separated, and prepared to be made into new products.
Hannah Hengehold, Rumpke`s Education Specialist, took us through the MRF for a behind-the-scenes look at each stage of the recycling process!
